Stamp rally – #1 Matsumoto Castle

Back in June 2007, the Nihon Jōkaku Kyōkai (Japan Castle Foundation) launched a stamp rally to promote their list of the top 100 Japanese castles. The deal being that you make your way around the various islands that make up the nation of Japan to collect the 100 stamps.

For a guy who is all about Japanese castles, I’ve been pretty slow on the uptake. What can I say, it just hasn’t made much of an impression on me. #stamp_humour

Well, I’m now here to say that I have seen the errors of my way and that I am on-board in a big way, that I have gotten with the program.

Finally, let me present to you, #1 of 100 – Matsumoto Castle.

A little extra research has highlighted the fact that there is a problem with my stamp. Can anyone spot what that might me? There are 10 points up for grabs.

Ok, I’ll take a stab at it. I think the “official” (if you want to call it that) 100 Meijo stamps actually say “hyaku meijo” and have a number on them. I gave up on this pretty quickly because in some cases the stamps are located in a public office miles away from the actual castle and only open during certain hours, but I wish you luck. It would be cool to have a catalog of all the stamps online.

Thanks Eric, you are absolutely right. Those 10 points are yours.

Despite my stated keenness in the above post, I won’t be going too far out of my way. I’d rather be tracking down a relocated gate that a stamp.
