Sashiki Castle – a video

In the very early hours of Sunday morning I made the dash down the Western coast of Kyūshū. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing, it always is. The plan was to scoot through Kumamoto city to explore the Southern area of Kumamoto Prefecture. Easier said than done. As soon as I caught a glimpse of the Kumamoto Castle, I drove straight for it.

I might just skip the play-by-play and explain the following video. Sashiki castle was the final destination for the day, and can I say, it was awesome! I’d actually had my eye on this place for some time. How glad I was that I could finally get there. So, check out not only this video but also the link to the Sashiki castle profile page for plenty of pictures & information.

Awesome! I’m so jealous! I want to castle tour around Japan next time I get back. And now I really want to translate some of Owada’s book… I was thinking about the section on stonework when you talked about it in the video. Just a few more weeks until free time and I swear I’ll get on that! :)

Thanks Travis, I appreciate your support. When are you going to get in front of the camera?

I am pretty lucky that I can go off exploring as often as I do. I really should get my hands on that book too…

The stonework looks amazing and appears to be in great condition. Incredible condition.

I love these videos too. Allows me to have the feeling of visiting there, especially a place I may never get to. More videos please. :)

I’m glad you like the videos. When I see them through my own eyes I kind of cringe a bit. But hey, I like the fact that I’m putting Japanese castles out there.

I agree with you.More people should know about this castle. Thanks for sharing. :)

I love the video! More videos please! And don’t cringe – it’s not about you, it’s about the castles! :-)

Thanks Anna! I’m weird, I cringe, AND post without hesitation.

Hey, how about a #showmejapan vid-cast? That is a winner.

    Hey Dan,

Wow, great video, sorry to be slow on the viewing. I think the most impressive part of that Castle is the view and the very commanding location. I can only imagine what an imposing view the Donjon from below. Awesome, I wish I had the time to explore at my own pace instead of my break neck tactical strikes!

    Keep ‘em coming!

Thanks man. Slow to view isn’t a problem, the video won’t expire any time soon.

“Tactical strikes!” I like that expression. It pretty much describes the manner in which I travel when I’m not in my backyard of Kyūshū.

    Here’s to real free time!
