Odawara Castle at twilight

I don’t have a great deal to say about Odawara castle, though it is a castle of great significance. It was here that Toyotomi Hideyoshi defeated the last of his enemies, the Hōjō. Following the removal of the Hōjō from the Kantō region, Hideyoshi then convinced a certain Mr Tokugawa Ieyasu to set-up shop in Edo. Perhaps you’ve heard of him and his epoch.

The photo, which I’m happy turned out as good as it did, was taken during my trip there in August 2010.

I need to do serious learning of Japanese history because I do enjoy reading your posts. :)

Hey Lina, thank you so much. I’m really glad there are people out there that are able to take something from what I’m doing.

    :)

Wow, that is an awesome photo. The light on the castle and the sky are amazing.

Thank man. But, just as I tweeted, it was a lucky shot.

The castle tower of Odawara castle looks so solemn. In our area, we don’t have castles with tower (donjon) but have turret. The photo is fantastic and very well captured!!!
Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend.

And you used two magic words in your post: Ieyasu and Hideyoshi. That’s the easiest way to get my dear husband to comment on any blog entry.
And I agree with the comments above – it’s a fantastic photo. Have you ever thought of creating your own castle postcards? :-)

I almost felt bad about his post. It was late at night when I started, and the words accompanying the photo is token. Thankfully a pictures tells a thousand words.

No, I hadn’t though about making my own postcards until now…

Thanks Yoshi. I appreciate all the comments. I might make it easier on you & Anna in the future by only posting one entry for #ShowMeJapan.
