Ehime stamps

I recall as a child being asked if I’d collected stamps. My mother had been really into collecting them, and her interest had rubbed off a little onto my sister & me. Anyway, so when I was asked “Do you collect stamps?”, I said yes. The person who’d asked the question then proceeded to jump on my foot and said, “Well, there’s another one!” Ahh… the funny things kids get up to.

You may recall from a previous post that a trip I took to Ehime late last year. It was then that I actually started collecting the stamps of Japan’s 100 famous castles (100名城). What you see below are the stamps of Yuzuki Castle (No, you don’t), Matsuyama Castle, Ōzu Castle and Uwajima Castle.

I actually missed out on Yuzuki twice: morning and night. I guess I’ll just have to go back there again one of these days.

So, um…do you collect stamps?

I’ve often considered collecting the stamps / inscriptions that one can get at temples… but I never did, and have missed so many already, I would feel weird about starting now. I’d have to go back and revisit everywhere I’ve ever visited in order to get my book up to snuff.

The one stamp I have, though, is one of the royal seal of Ryukyu, which you can get stamped into your book at Shuri Castle.

Rather cynically, I see these stamps mostly as content. Oops, I went and said it out loud. Having just said that, if there is a stamp at a castle that I’m at, I will of course get it.

Shuri Castle is one place I’d love to go. There are always deals on flights there. Maybe in 2012.

Yes, we do. We were and still are on a quest to collect stamps at all JR Stations in Japan. Not sure when we or whether we’ll be able to have a complete set of them. ;)

You do? Is it EVERY JR station or just the main ones? Either way, that’s a lot of stations. I’d go as far as to say that it’d be impossible.

Can I help? I live near a JR station – Yoyoigaoka (Saga). I’ll ask next time I go there.

Of course, it’d be great if all stations have stamps, but for now, we just aim those stations that do have those nice stamps. And yeah, it did involve going around and asking for them in smaller stations. Bigger stations usually have them where people can easily come and stamp. :)

    Thanks for the offer. :)
